I'm just wondering what the purpose of the ascii_name field in the cities table is.
I am going to be replacing all the default cities with different entries and i want to know if i need to have an ascii version of each.

The ascii_name field is used in the URL, to filter jobs by city. On jobber.ro, you can do something like this:
http://www.jobber.ro/locuri-de-munca/pr … bucuresti/
This displays all programming (programatori) jobs (locuri-de-munca) from bucuresti (ascii_name for Bucuresti/Bucharest).
