Topic: New skin and features

I've added a new skin and heaps if new features to www.gigajobs.com.au and constructive criticism would be good.

Still based on JB 1.9
and uses redjumpsuits addons

www.gigajobs.com.au / Aussie IT Jobs

Re: New skin and features

you should work more at the buttons/banners. the green for the "post a job" looks bad.
the same with the banner "..register here"
the "apply now" button is not so visible (on any of the default JB templates) and you should make it stand out.

The serif font (Times new roman?) does not match with the sans serif font from the menu. stick just to the sans serif.

Re: New skin and features

I think it's nice and unique, but :
1) I wonder why u got rid of the ajax search
2) The menu (of categories) is kinda small

Re: New skin and features

Hi Testgigs,

There was so much that I liked, its hard to give constructive criticism.  Previously I was using monster.com and dice.com as templates to follow, however your site has given me lots of new ideas as well.

I'm not too sure how I feel about the way you are presenting the job categories, the default makes goofy buttons, perhaps, I'd suggest moving them from the top to a side bar?

The shop is a nice compliment, however I'd integrate a different shopping cart, to make it feel more like your shop.

If you get a chance give me some feedback on our jobsite, its available in my signature, however I shamelessly listed all our websites so the job board is rizeq.com, the new template design and functionality should be up within a day or so.

Re: New skin and features

Overall I like the look and feel. It's clean and simple and each job on the home page has space to breath. Couple of points which you're free to ignore as they're just my opinion:

- Not a big fan of the toolbars you've got going on as they can be a bit intrusive for the user.
- Jobs on the home page: hovering over highlights the whole job section which is really nice, however the point turns to a clickable hand but the only element that is clickable is the job title itself. I'd advise making the entire element clickable or changing it back to a default icon on ohver. As it stands it's slightly misleading for the user.
- Using Chrome on Windows the "Part-time" sub-navigation hangs below the others and almost touches the job categories below.
- On your sidebar items the titles sometimes stick out from the rounded corner as they've either not got enough padding or the rounded corners are too round! Personally I think the rounded corner should be less accented, but again that's a personal thing.
- The email boxes in the sidebar are wider than the sidebar itself, which in some cases makes the whole sidebar scroll to the left when completing long email addresses or passwords. Might just be Chrome behaviour though.
- Company Login and mashup (which needs an uppercase "M" for consistency" actually link to very different parts of the the site compares to About us and contact. This could cause confusion for some new users. Also I'd question your navigation overall. If you think your target audience is a jobseeker, you actually demoted the key bits of navigation that they are interested in below stuff that is not relevant for them.

Otherwise it's a really slick looking site. Well done!
