Topic: changing admin password?
Does anyone have any pointers on this?
I thought that I could just go directly to MySQL and change the password for admin.. but that isnt working for me. Any tips?

Enter in your phpmyadmin...
tab -> admin
in field password change functions for MD5, and erase the letters and number of the field value... insert your pass

Yes, this is what I've attempted to do several times.
Do I need to change the function? If so... to what?
